Action Learning Group Facilitation Training

Action Learning enables individuals to learn by confronting the personal issues that block positive action. In removing the issues and taking supporting actions, Action Learning can make your people, processes or products more profitable. Typical issues stem from change (a new direction, new job, new system, or new external pressures), interpersonal conflict, a lack of fit with company culture or through accompanying a training programme such as Leadership and Management.

PRD Partnership deliver Action Learning group facilitation in 2 distinct ways.

We supply facilitation for a group of 6 or 7 individuals for a period of 6-9 months either with the remit that: these people also receive training to facilitate Action Learning for other members of the company.

Or

The group can be self facilitated and run itself.

Why do we offer this? Its not training and its not consultancy. The University of Bath's Management Faculty specialise in Action Research. We worked with the University to help individuals and companies overcome the challenges that they face using Action Research. Creating Excellence offered Marc and Roger the opportunity join their “real ways of learning” programme to help others become Action Learning facilitators. Action Learning can help you by:

Overcoming interpersonal issues

Action Learning has supported individuals to take action. Interpersonal issues are often due to issues on both sides being left unsaid, and then the issue escalates, and the working relationship becomes difficult. Through being able to talk about the issue, have others listen and challenge, you can feel supported in discussing difficult issues with colleagues and repairing working relationships. Due to the accountability of the set, you have to report back on your action. Often a powerful motivator.

Overcoming phobias

Marketing, finance, strategic plans, numbers can often develop from a difficulty to a phobia. You can feel scared to take action, or you don't know what action to take as you feel you have tried lots of different methods. Often the solution is not about ability, but communication and attitude. Action Learning supports you in finding, trying out, and persisting with methods to confront phobias, with the result that you feel more able to deal with parts of your work load you have previously ignored.

Discovering more about yourself

Everyone has blind spots, things you don't know about yourself. Action Learning provides the right environment to discuss and challenge you on an issue about yourself. In doing so you may discover something that is obvious to everyone else, but not to you. (If you want to understand more about blind spots you might like to take the personal relations survey based on the Johari Window).

Assisting Knowledge Transfer

You may have a member of your team that has fantastic knowledge that is key to the future success of your organisation. Action learning helps that individual find ways of understanding others and therefore how to communicate effectively. The combination of these benefits means that Action Learning can be a powerful part of a leadership and management course. The listening, supporting, challenging and accountable nature of the sets improve skills to more effectively lead and manage others.

Intelligent Growth Programme

The Intelligent Growth programme provides the following benefits:

The starting point for the programme is a definition of innovation that simply reflects how we create ideas, what we do with them, how we manage our existing know how, how much do we need or want to change and how mature are the frameworks that are put in place? This definition leads onto the ability to measure the state of an organization, the identification of strategic capabilities and barriers and a short workshop programme that works with key catalysts within a business to work on the results of the capability audit and define strategies for the future.
